According to Mike Garafolo, the Philadelphia Eagles have signed franchise right tackle Lane Johnson to a meaty contract extension.
This move comes just two weeks after making Brandon Brooks the highest-paid guard in the NFL. Continuity has been a key staple of the Pederson era since its dawn and that isn’t going to change any time soon.
Having arguably the best right tackle and best right guard in football secured for the next four years to protect Carson Wentz isn’t exactly a bad investment…right?
Johnson was in a similar spot to Zach Ertz this season. His cap-hit was set to almost double next year and although he was contracted for another two years, striking while the iron is hot made plenty of sense given that his value as arguably the best right tackle in football is only going to sky-rocket.
The Eagles still likely have a few more aces up their sleeve and are one of the few teams making contractual moves at this stage in the season. Johnson becomes the fourth player signed to a new deal this month.
