The Eagles secondary has been dire this season and while a lot of it can be acclimated to schematic deficiencies, there’s also been a deafening cry for help. It’s not quite Jalen Ramsey, but there will be one Jalen suiting up for the team on Sunday.
Mills has been out of action since week 8 last year, where he suffered a foot injury. There’s bound to be some rust to shake off, but all signs are pointing towards both Mills and Darby returning to their starting roles, if not this week, at least when fully healthy. Orlando Scandrick would be the assumed nickel cornerback.
It remains to be seen whether or not the return of ‘The Green Goblin’ will provide the injection that this pass defense needs, but at least his first game back will come against an offense that’s struggling to find a rhythm, unlike that of Minnesota or Green Bay.
It’s an important year for the former seventh-round pick who is now in his final contracted year with the team. Mills has to prove that he can be a key piece on this team moving forward because if he doesn’t, the team may already be looking at a full secondary rebuild and the odds aren’t in his favor.
In eight games last year, Mills had 42 tackles in 6 games along with 9 passes defensed.
