MLB.com has updated its list of MLB’s top 100 prospects. The list featured 3 Phillies players, including 2 debutants.
Falling off the list was Adonis Medina. Despite a decreased home run rate, Medina’s stats all regressed. His ERA increased from 4.12 to 4.94. His strikeouts fell from 9.9K to 7.0K/9. He allowed more baserunners in general as his WHIP rose from 1.249 to 1.363. Medina falls off the list after being ranked #87.
Moving UP
Alec Bohm is the only Phillies prospect that was on the list that is now moving up. He moves up from 39 to 35 on the list.
Bohm had a great 2019. Between 3 levels, he slashed .305/.378/.518 with 21 HR and 80 RBI. His performance put him in the conversation to be the opening day starting 3rd baseman for the Phillies in 2020.
He has continued to impress in his Arizona Fall League debut. In his first game, the 3rd baseman went 4-5 with a double and 2 RBI.
Welcome to the List
Spencer Howard and Bryson Stott debut on the list at 89 and 90 respectfully.
Howard missed 2 months of the season, but his electric stuff lands him at #89. In 71 innings pitched, Howard had a 2.03 ERA with 94 K.
He impressed in his first season at AA. In 6 starts, he had a 2.35 ERA with 38 punchouts. There was even clamor for Howard to be called up at the end of the season.
The Phillies used their first pick of the 2019 draft to take shortstop Bryson Stott. So far Stott has looked solid. Between rookie ball and low A Williamsport, Stott slashed .295/.391/.494 in just under 50 plate appearances.
