The Eagles roster cuts are well underway and there were always bound to be some tricky decisions. Perhaps the most difficult of all was at the linebacker spot, where T.J Edwards and Alex Singleton duked it out last night in one final bid to make the team. The latter was recently waived.

This one stings.

After going undrafted in 2015, the 6’2, 232 lbs, linebacker bounced around NFL practice squads before landing in Calgary, wherein three seasons he recorded 311 tackles, 4 sacks, one interception, and forced six fumbles.

Named a CFL All-Star in both of his last two seasons, he was also given the CFL’s ‘Most Outstanding Defensive player’ in 2017, leading the league in tackles one year later.

Singleton arrived in Philadelphia and immediately made an impact on the practice field before demonstrating special teams value in preseason. The only issue is, T.J Edwards is three years younger and arguably has a higher upside.

It’s unlikely he makes it through waivers unclaimed and the former Stampeder is bound to attract attention from CFL teams once again. Singleton was a summer standout, but this is a real testament to the strength of this depth chart.
