Everything you need to know ahead of Eagles preseason opener

It’s back! it’s finally back! Football is in the air and what better way to kick it off then to get all you need to know right here? The Philadelphia Eagles will kick off their preseason by taking on the Tennessee Titans! You remember them right? The last time these two teams met was last season when the Titans edged out the Eagles 26-23 in an overtime win.

The Titans trailed by 14 in the third quarter of that game which entailed the Titans converting three fourth downs on the game-winning drive. One conversion came off a penalty while the second was converted by a 19-yard gain on fourth-and-15 and the other was a 17 yard gain on fourth-and-2. The game ended with a Corey Davis touchdown catch in overtime. One of the many heartbreaks the Eagles faced last season but that was last year! Get over it!

It’s a brand new season, the birds are back and not as banged up as they once were but there are still a few injuries that will impact what you see Thursday night. With Kamu and Bradham out, the spotlight will be on the depth at the linebacker position. Expect to see a heavy dose of Nathan Gerry, LJ Fort, and rookie TJ Edwards. Staying on the defensive side, its time for the world to see the progress the team’s young corners have made. Rasul Douglas and Sidney Jones have had a stellar camp so far!

As for the offense, this preseason will be the Nate Sudfeld show. With Foles continuing his career in Jacksonville, all eyes will be on the Eagles young backup QB. With Cody Kessler and rookie Clayton Thorson breathing down his back for playing time, Sudfeld may not have much room for error.

Head Coach Doug Pederson has yet to confirm whether Wentz will play in the preseason opener but in regards to preseason Wentz stated that “Preseason’s helpful, but I don’t think it’s a necessity”. He also assured everyone that “no matter how much I’m out there I’ll be confident in Week One..”.

Either way, he’s leaving it Pederson’s hands and will be ready when his number is called upon. Outside of Wentz, there’s an uproar growing for the career debut of 2nd round pick, Miles Sanders. After giving fans a glimpse of just how special he can be, the fever for the rookie runningback is at an all-time high. No one knows how much he will play yet but Eagles fans can’t wait to see more of Sanders.
