The Phillies found their rotation help on Monday, acquiring Jason Vargas from the NY Mets for AA catcher Austin Bossart, according to reports.
Jason Vargas is a crafty lefty with a 4.01 ERA. He’s been better of late, pitching to the tune of a 3.34 ERA in his last 12 starts.
Bossart is a 26-year-old light-hitting catcher. He’s currently hitting.195 in AA Reading.
Money is also reportedly being exchanged in the deal.
Vargas will most likely either replace Jake Arrieta who is dealing with a bone spur or Zach Eflin who hasn’t had a good start in a month.
