After his mysterious absence, yesterday was described as ‘injury-related’ by Jim Schwartz, there was plenty of speculation surrounding Cre’Von LeBlanc’s status. Was he being shopped by the Eagles, or was the injury more serious than we were led to believe? NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport tied up the loose ends with this report on Saturday evening.
The Eagles signed UDFA CB Alex Brown who is regarded as a slot corner due to his size yesterday, before working out CB Orlando Scandrick today, one of the top remaining free agents at his position and someone who has been a slot corner for the majority of his career, coming off of a year where he started seven times for the Chiefs.
At least we know have some perspective. No dodgy trade speculation, no horrific injury, but something that is going to force the Eagles’ hand in bringing in an insurance policy. Jay Liggins, a small school sleeper who signed with the team as an UDFA this offseason, was taking second-team nickel reps and there is a chance that the Eagles will need an insurance policy by the time camp begins.
However, we also know that Jalen Mills is still on the PUP list and Ronald Darby is yet to take part in full team activities during camp. Depth is light at corner which is fantastic for the young underdogs like Rasul Douglas and Avonte Maddox, but it doesn’t give the team much in the way of guys to lean on in a pinch. Don’t be surprised if Scandrick, who drew interest from the Vikings recently, returns to the NFC East.
