With another regular season about to close for the Flyers. One question that still remains is who is the Flyers MVP? It’s been a roller coaster season of sorts for the orange and black, from an eight-game winning streak, to a seven-game losing streak. From firing Dave Hakstol and Ron Hextall to making Scott Gordon the Interim Head Coach to hiring Chuck Fletcher. However, with all the ups and downs this team has faced, there is one player that stands above the rest. That player is no other than Sean Couturier.
Coots wanted to prove to his critics that the 2017-18 season was no fluke. Well, Coots has done just that, as he has been nothing short of fantastic. For the season, Couturier has registered 32 goals, 42 assists, and is a plus 5. It shows he is doing things right on the ice. Coots rebounded nicely from re-injuring his knee in the offseason, from a hit that he sustained from his fellow teammate Radko Gudas during the playoffs of the prior year.
This (Should be once again) Selke Candidate in Coots takes great pride in his game. He wants to win regardless if these games are meaningless or not,“I think everyone has pride in here. We want to win games. It’s a lot more fun to win. Whatever happens here down the stretch we need to finish strong and build something here. Just push on in the same direction. Not get on our own pages here.”
This 26-year-old standout has proved to the entire league that he’s a force to be reckoned with. Coots was the heart and soul of this young Flyers team all season long, and there’s no doubt he is the MVP of the team. The Flyers will announce the MVP before Saturday’s contest against the Carolina Hurricanes. When Couturier’s name is called there will be plenty of
Honorable Mention:
Claude Giroux has been a steady first line winger/center all season for the orange and black. Giroux has now produced the third most points in the NHL for the past nine seasons.
Now on a line with James Van Riemsdyk and Nolan Patrick, Giroux has had yet another stellar season. He has registered 21 goals, 60 assists, and is a plus 11 in 79 games played. Moreover, with these solid offensive stats, Giroux once again proved to his critics that he is still a force to be reckoned within the NHL.
With Giroux, it makes the orange and black that much tougher to beat on a nightly basis. As Giroux goes so does the Flyers, and they’re hoping to rebound next season.
