How about them Philadelphia Flyerssss? The proud orange clad fans were either rejoicing throughout the streets of Philadelphia, or sleeping last Sunday when they heard the Flyers agreed to terms with a former solid player in James Van Riemsdyk. He’s finally coming back home.
One would think that General Manager Ron Hextall and the Flyers were done in free agency after the Van Riemsdyk signing. Well, the wizard in Hextall had other plans, as the Flyers agreed to terms on a one-year deal with Right- Handed Defenseman in Christian Folin. This more than further proves Hextall trusts the “Process,” and is trying to make the Flyers contenders for the 2018-19 season.
Folin is a 6’3,” 204 pound, 27 year-old Defenseman that had a solid 2017-18 season for the Los Angeles Kings. He completed the season posting 3 goals, and 10 assists in 65 games played. Moreover, Folin isn’t afraid to throw down the gloves for his teammates either, and he was third overall in hits with 167 on the season. Folin has a shot to be a solid 6th or 7th Veteran Defenseman with the big club, in the event highly touted prospect Philippe Myers isn’t ready for the NHL following training camp in the fall.
General Manager Ron Hextall means business this coming season. Folin builds strength as a righty on the blueline for the Flyers. Within the next few seasons this classy organization is going to transform into a Stanley Cup contender, and one that is tough to beat on a nightly basis. One thing is certain the future is bright in Flyer land.
