1st Period Notes:

Tayor Leier takes a High-Sticking penalty just over 2 and a half minutes into the first period. Provorov attempts to bock a shot on the ensuing PK and immediately hits the ice after the puck rockets off the side of his knee. After writhing on the ice in pain he manages to skate off the ice and stays on the bench. Tough kid. The penalty ends but just 1 second after Leier leaves the box Justin Williams jams home a puck that somehow manages to squeak behind Mrazek. 1-0 Hurricanes.

Flyers are having a tough time getting any offense going through the first 10 minutes of the game. Carolina giving them very little time and space.

Flyers find their feet after the midway point of the period but still can’t find the back of the net. 6 minutes remaining in the first.

The first line creates a fantastic chance with 5 minutes remaining in the period. Giroux fed Couturier who was right on Ward’s doorstep but the Carolina goaltender somehow managed to swat the puck out of mid-air and keep his team up by 1.

Despite carrying the play for the final 10 minutes of the period, Philadelphia can’t manage to find twine and trail the Hurricanes 1-0 at the end of the 1st.

2nd Period Notes:

Derek Ryan takes a High-Sticking penalty 2 and a half minutes into the second to give the Flyers their first PP of the game. Carolina kills the penalty and manages to rag the puck in the Philadelphia zone for the better part of the final minute of the PK.

Both Konecny and Skinner are sent to the box shortly after the Ryan penalty ends and Teravainen converts less than a minute into the 4-on-4 to make it 2-0.

Justin Williams makes it 3-0 Carolina on a redirection from a Pesce shot. That’s his second goal of the night. Carolina is rolling in this second period.

The Hurricanes controlled almost all of this period. Really limiting the Flyers shot attempts and have gone into full defensive mode after going up 3-0. Flyers will need a quick jolt in the 3rd to get them out of the hole they’ve dug.

3rd Period Notes:

Sean Couturier feeds Konecny with a beautiful cross crease pass and makes it 3-1. Should energize Philadelphia.

Flyers playing much better through the first 10 minutes of the 3rd but Cam Ward has been up to the task. 1st line is starting to turn it on as well. Shots are even at 3-3.

Noah Hanifin is called for Holding 12 minutes into the third. Carolina has been playing the PK aggressively all night long and they do the same on this one to send it back to even strength with just under 6 minutes remaining.

Sebastian Aho beats Mrazek with a snipe and makes it 4-1. Williams fumbled with the puck entering the slot but still managed to chip the puck to Aho, he’s had a great night.

This game trickles to a close as Aho’s goal kills all momentum for the Flyers. First regulation lost in exactly a month.
