What a great day in Flyers land. Last night the Flyers pounded the New York Islanders 6-3, and today they sign a top college free agent Mike Vecchione. It is a one-year deal that is worth $925,000.
Vecchione was born February 25, 1993, in Saugas, MA. He is the all time leading scorer in the Union’s history amassing 71 goals, and 105 assists in 143 games played. The young star is this years favorite to win the Hobey Baker Award as the Nation’s top Collegiate player.
The Flyers managed to beat out the likes of the New York Rangers, and the Tampa Bay Lightning for Vecchione. Vecchione is a speedy center that will play in any situation the head coach asks of him.
Shayne Gostisbehere broke the news to philly.com stating, “He just told me he’s coming here and I’m pumped.”
According to philly.com, General Manager Ron Hextall said he will be at the Flyers morning skate tomorrow, and will play this season. However, Hextall did state that Vecchione will not play tomorrow against the New Jersey Devils. Flyers fans its been an up and down year, but with this signing the future is bright in Flyer land.
