According to New England Patriots writer Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald, the Eagles are set to place a second-round tender on pending restricted free agent, Trey Burton.

The 25-year old finally broke out in 2016 after going undrafted two years prior and climbing his way up the depth chart. A stunning training camp saw Burton secure his role in Pederson’s Offense..as he’d go on to play in 15 games and receive for 327 yards and his first NFL touchdown. Doug Pederson’s 3-TE sets saw the former Florida Gator emerge as a reliable pair of hands for Carson Wentz, as well as contributing in various facets of the west-coast offense.

The tender would cost $2.746M against their salary cap in 2017..but leaves the possibility of a potential second round pick, should he receive an offer from elsewhere that the Eagles fail to match.

Speaking with us exclusively in an interview with us recently, Trey opened up about his future in the Philadelphia, which at the time was uncertain.

“All my family and myself are on God’s timing. It doesn’t matter when or what happens, we know he has a plan for us and we’re trying to walk in his will. If I get the feeling that the Lord wants me to leave Football, I’m gone..there’s no second guessing. We know that he wants us to do something, we’re going to wait and see what happens and where we’re going to be next year.”

It was also noted that the Eagles are trying to trade linebacker, Mychal Kendricks. This isn’t news to many..although it’s interesting to hear how often Kendricks’ name is being bought up throughout the NFL Combine..which is often treated like a “Winter Meetings” period as such.

*Update*
According to an anonymous source close to the situation, the report is legitimate and Burton will indeed be back in midnight green for the 2017 season.
