It’s time! Tonight is the first Philadelphia Union playoff game since 2011! The slate is wiped clean! It’s Win or go home time!
The Union face Toronto FC in Canada in a knockout round game at 7:30 tonight on ESPN 2. This historic game is one that many are giving to Toronto, but don’t count the Union out!
This is a one-off game, and the Union have had a very good record in win or go home games over the past three years. Philadelphia is 10/13 in knockout games in the US Open Cup since 2014. So if any team can get up for an elimination game it’s the Union.
Philadelphia has limped into the playoffs; not winning in seven straight games will do that to a team. However, tonight is a clean slate. Forget the fact that they’re playing on the road against a very good Toronto team. As of right now both teams are winless in the 2016 MLS playoffs!
It is an exciting time to be a Union fan. Whether you’re optimistic, or if you’re the cretin’s that booed Jim Curtin during his address to the fans after Sunday’s regular season finale. It’s a whole new season starting tonight!
It’s time for the Union to prove who they really are! Are they going to be a team that embodies Philadelphia? Will they fight every minute they’re out there and make a splash in these playoffs, or will they fall flat on their face’s in the knockout round?
This team has a chance against Toronto tonight! Toronto does have all of their star power, but their defense has fallen below the greatness they were early in the regular season. If the Union can muddle up the midfield, keep the ball from Toronto’s attackers, and create counter attacks then the Union will find chances!
Tonight is the night we find out who the Union are! It’s win or go home time! Make sure to come back to Philly Sports Network later for a recap of what will either be the continuation of the playoffs, or an abrupt end to them! Enjoy the Doopin’ game tonight Union fans!
