Moments ago the Eagles finally announced that they would be placing Nose Tackle Bennie Logan on the season ending IR list. The move comes an injury has plagued the 26 year old in recent weeks. Logan played in 14 games this season, racking up 55 tackles and a single sack. According to Pro Football Focus, Logan ranks 14th out of 71 in his position.
Many were expecting Byron Maxwell to also be assigned to the season ending IR list following an SC Joint Sprain but it appears as though just the one roster move will be made ahead of tomorrows game with the New York Giants.
The man filling Logan’s roster spot is the Eagles sixth round pick from this years draft, cornerback Randall Evans.
Here’s what NFL.COM had to say about Evans prior to the draft:
“Full-timer from the slot for Kansas State. Evans has produced noteworthy on-ball stats with his passes defensed and four interceptions in 2014 and his average of 66 tackles per season since 2012 shows his willingness to support the run. Evans shows plus football intelligence and is proactive in coverage rather than reactive, but his long speed is iffy on tape and and he looks best suited to play in zone coverage. Evans has a shot at getting drafted thanks to his size, production and pro-day speed.”
The Eagles are very low on depth at Corner and with just one game to go why not rotate around and give some young blood a chance on the big stage? Denzel Rice could also finally get his first defensive snap as an Eagle if Maxwell is still absent. Evans ran the 40 yard dash in 4.40 seconds and has great size at 6″0 but his main strength is how physical he is when playing zone coverage. He isn’t afraid to make a tackle and whilst in man-to-man he may be over his head..when playing in zone he can be left to make a big play or a big tackle and that’s something the Eagles have longed for all season.
