And so ends the Chris Porter era in Philadelphia. It was reported just moments ago that the Minnesota Wild have picked up the left winger off the waivers, meaning that the Flyers depth at the position will take a big knock.
The Flyers waived the forward on Wednesday and had previously hoped to sign him to the Phantoms. Unfortunately Wild Coach Mike Yeo was reported as saying “He’s a guy that’s always been on our radar,” following the move. This now means that as opposed to playing in the AHL, Porter will be vying for an NHL job and a place alongside his former teammate Zach Parise

With Porter now not heading for Lehigh Valley, the Flyers’ choice of going into the season with 14 forwards or 8 defensemen comes down to Scott Laughton and Brandon Manning.
Prior to his tryout with the Flyers, Porter spent his last six seasons with the St. Louis Blues organization.
