Kiko Alonso missed Sundays game against the New York Jets due to spraining his knee, the same knee in which he previously tore his ACL.
Fans have been anxious to hear updates on the status of the statistically impressive linebacker and moments ago we got our first insight. Chip Kelly revealed in a press conference today that Alonso will be rehabbing his knee in Florida with Dr. James Andrews until Friday but does not think surgery is required.
It doesn’t look like we will get much more information out of the Eagles head coach, but the signs are encouraging if Chip confidently says that he doesn’t think surgery is going to be needed. Rehabbing would assume that a diagnosis has already been given and Alonso is now working on getting the knee healthy again.
Whilst a timeframe currently remains uncertain, Alonso will definitely be inactive against the Redskins this week, perhaps opening the door for the hugely impressive rookie Jordan Hicks.
UPDATE: Alonso reportedly underwent arthroscopic surgery earlier this week, contradicting the Kelly conference and will be out for around a month or so.
Chip drops an interesting nugget — Mentions Kiko is not an injured reserve type of guy with his injury. #Eagles
