The Philadelphia Eagles look to have placed kicker Cody Parkey on the season long Injured Reserve list following a re-occurring problem with a groin injury that he suffered earlier in the year. It’s reported that Caleb Sturgis will take his place.

Parkey sustained the injury against the Jets and just a day later, the Eagles held tryouts for six known NFL kickers. Sturgis was one of those men and is believed to have already signed with the team.
Nick Novak, Billy Cundiff and Shayne Graham were amongst the other five names being tried out, but ultimately it was the fifth round pick for Miami in the 2013 NFL Draft that won the spot on the team.
Sturgis spent two seasons in Miami before being cut with the final few players, narrowly missing out on the final 53 man roster.
Last year, the 26 year old had a 78.4% success rate, kicking 29 out of 37 field goals alongside 37 touchbacks and a 100% extra point record. He ranked 21 out of 57 NFL kickers according to Pro Football Focus.
Parkey on the other hand is set to end his second year of his three year deal on the sidelines. The 23 year old is set to make a base salary of $510,000 for this year and made three of four attempted field goals, with the one miss coming against Atlanta.
#Eagles kicker tryouts today will include Caleb Sturgis, Nick Novak and Billy Cundiff. An ailing Cody Parkey makes this necessary.
