Flyers Weekly Mailbag: It’s time to heat up

How about the sweet smell of victory? The Philadelphia Flyers continued their losing ways against the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Boston Bruins. It was a crushing last 22 seconds in the Flyers 3-2 loss to the Bruins last night. With the loss the orange and black now have extended their losing streak to five-games. The team rebounded with a win over the Jets, but there’s a long way to go.

A common theme over the course of the past week and a half or so, is the leaky Flyers defense. Unfortunately, it hasn’t gotten any better with the two back to back losses. For instance, Alex Lyon played admirably in the loss to the Bruins by back stopping 24 shots on 27 shots faced. Brad Marchand scored the game winner off the initial save by Lyon, but Marchand snuck behind Shayne Gostisbehere and potted the game winner. Failure to pick up the trailers have hurt the Flyers this week, and this is just one cause leading to their free fall as of late. Without further delay, here our answers your questions.

Nick L I cannot thank you enough for your support. You’re a die-hard Flyers fan, and it shows in this post. Travis Sanheim and Samuel Morin in my eyes are the closest to cracking the NHL for good. Morin will be out at least the next three weeks due to a lower body injury for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Hopefully, Morin can come back 100%, and put these injury woes behind him.

Morin is definitely still in the long-term plans for the Flyers. However, if I’m the orange and black I would shut Morin down for the season, and let him regroup physically and mentally for next season.

Sanheim will 100% make the club next fall. Of course, no job is safe in the NHL. However, I think it would be his spot to lose. Brandon Manning most likely will not be resigned, thus opening a permanent spot. The Flyers have recalled Sanheim for, “Emergency Purposes,” as there’s an apparent injury to a defenseman. Johnny Oduya is obviously still a no go, or he would fill in.

Myers is really making a case to be up with the club on a full-time basis. He’s so tough to beat one on one. I don’t think he makes the roster full-time with the big club in the fall. However, he would definitely be the first recall if God forbid there’s an injury.

Dan you’re a die-hard Flyers fan. This is great to have a sense of humor when the orange and black aren’t getting the type of results they would like here as of late. Dale Weise as you know shoots right, and plays right-wing. Sometimes I don’t know what he’s thinking haha. Wiese is a nice guy, and a class act. However, one thing is certain in my eyes Ron Hextall has to look this off-season, and find ways to trim the fat (Weise). The future is here with NAK, Danick Martel, and Mike Vecchione.
