After the Philadelphia Union’s 2nd consecutive clean sheet and 3-0 victory over DC United in Matchday 10, Centerback Jakob Glesnes and Goalkeeper Andre Blake have been named to Major League Soccer’s Team of the Matchday.
Glesnes’ Team of the Matchday First Team Honors
Jakob Glesnes, who played a pivotal role on both sides of the ball, opened the scoring with his first goal of the season in the 15th minute after placing a right-footed volley in the top corner of the net on Saturday afternoon, which was also nominated for Goal of the Matchday.
Glesnes also gets credited with a secondary assist, his first helper of the year, for taking the free kick that led to Bruno Damiani’s goal late in the game. The 31-year-old Centerback also logged 13 defensive actions and nine clearances in the Union’s second consecutive and fifth clean sheet of the 2025 season.
Union’s captain Andre Blake makes the Bench of Team of the Matchday
Andre Blake was also named as a sub in Matchday 10’s Team of the Matchday after recording his 2nd consecutive clean sheet, just 1 week after securing the 100th of his career. Andre Blake’s 5-save clean sheet against DC United was also the Union captain’s 80th regular-season clean sheet of his career, making him the 2nd fastest player to achieve that feat in MLS history.
Jakob Glesnes and Andre Blake join a growing list of Union players to receive Team of the Matchday honors so far in the 2025 season, making them the ninth and tenth selections of the campaign, respectively.
