Awards are always nice. When an award represents the Philadelphia Flyers, they’re even nicer.

Oliver Bonk is the OHL Defenseman of the Month.

Bonk, drafted 22nd overall in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, shows an overall style that would fit well in John Tortorella‘s system. He is a 6’2″ reliable defenseman with a strong ability to move the puck. The Flyers didn’t draft him for his scoring ability, but Bonk is capable of becoming a strong playmaker.

Dale Hunter, head coach of the London Knights, moved Bonk to a new powerplay position; the bumper. Now, Bonk tallied 51 points (16G, 35A). It’s rare for a defenseman. They’ve released ‘Bumper Bonk’ merchandise for fans to purchase as a nod to his success.

This transition to success is impressive, to say the least.

In January, Bonk tallied 21 points (10G, 11A) in 10 games. He earned the OHL Defenseman of the Month honor. It’ll be a while before he suits up in Philadelphia, but Bonk is one of the most exciting prospects in the system.
