Commanders vs Eagles: week 4 quarterback analysis

The two quarterbacks facing off in this matchup could not be any more different. Jalen Hurts had an MVP-level campaign last year but has been sluggish to start 2023. However, he’s gradually been progressing and threw for 277 yards in the win over Tampa Bay. A pair of picks certainly hurt, but the young signal-caller was able to do more than enough to negate those very fixable errors and restore faith that the best is yet to come.

Meanwhile, Washington will be fielding Sam Howell. Under a new coaching staff, Howell pleasantly surprised just about everyone during the opening two weeks of the season, leading the Commanders to a pair of wins and putting up 299 yards against the Broncos while completing 69% of his passes.

Then the Bills came to town.

Howell threw 4 interceptions in what was ultimately a crushing defeat that saw the Commanders score a lowly 3 points against one of the AFC’s meanest defenses. Should Sean Desai be licking his lips about the prospect of his pass-rush giving Sam Howell another horrible day at the office? Probably.

Commanders vs Eagles: Who has the edge?

It might be easy to say the Eagles are the superior team by a considerable margin, but they were last year too when the Commanders snuck up on them and stole a 32-21 win in week 10. Sam Howell was the man dealing the damage then, but things might be a little different this time around.

The Eagles have a human wrecking ball in Jalen Carter and while the team only ranks 21st in sacks, they’ve generated relentless pressure and lead the league in run defense. This doesn’t bode well for an offensive unit that ranks 32nd in sacks allowed. Playing in Philadelphia is already tricky, but you already know that the Eagles will be sending the kitchen sink at a quarterback who turned the ball over 4 times last week and has been sacked more than anyone else in the NFL.

The run-game could also be a deciding factor and Philadelphia might just have the edge there. D’Andre Swift has been nothing short of outstanding over the last two weeks. The former Lions running back has put up 305 yards in two games and is averaging 6.8 yards per carry. With Washington surrendering an average of 128 yards on the ground per game, it’s tough to imagine them getting much possession.

Commanders vs Eagles betting pick

This is a big number, but the Eagles are at home and matchup very well with this Commanders team. Sure, they won in week 10 last year, but this defensive line is a different beast. Sam Howell will be under non-stop duress on Sunday and that’s bound to lead to turnovers this Eagles team can capitalize on.
