Eagles vs Buccaneers: week 3 injury report (Thursday)
Buccaneers CB Carlton Davis III, LB SirVocea Dennis, DL Calijah Kancey, S Ryan Neal, DT Vita Vea
Eagles S Reed Blankenship, CB James Bradberry, DT Fletcher Cox, LB Zach Cunningham, DT Jordan Davis, S Terrell Edmunds, RB Kenny Gainwell, RB Boston Scott, WR DeVonta Smith, TE Jack Stoll, DE Josh Sweat, WR Quez Watkins
Both teams will go into week 3 a little banged up, but the Eagles could be the team suffering more. The extensive injury report isn’t as bad as it looks with a lot of players resting, bhey were already without MLB Nakobe Dean, and they lost Avonte Maddox to a season-ending injury last week. If Reed Blankenship and James Bradberry are unable to return, this could spell trouble for a defense suddenly missing close to half its starters. The assumption is that Blankenship and Bradberry will be able to play, but even then, the Eagles are going to have a real soft spot in the middle of the field.
The Bucs could be getting Carlton Davis back after he missed last week with a toe injury, but it’s unlikely we see Calijah Kancey take the field. The rest of the injury report is likely just resting players.
Eagles vs Buccaneers: Week 3 analysis
The Eagles and Bucs are both 2-0, but they’ve reached this point in very different ways. The Eagles are clearly still some way from the ceiling we saw them hit in 2022, while the Bucs have been one of the more pleasant surprises to start the season, with Baker Mayfield leading a pass-first offense that has found some success against two fairly solid defenses. The Eagles, meanwhile, almost gave up the ghost to the Vikings, and survived a Belichick masterclass in week 1.
If the Bucs are going to win this game, they have to take the same approach as the Vikes and Pats – send constant pressure. Keeping Jalen Hurts off his perch is critical, especially when he’s struggling. The 2022 MVP Candidate is yet to pass the 200-yard mark this season, and this Bucs Defense is top-10 against the pass thanks to its ferocious defensive front.
For Philly, they have to do the opposite. Getting the passing game going is pivotal. Hurts has acknowledged that there’s plenty of Meat on the Bone and there’s no reason why an offense this star-studded should be middling out and relying on a ‘once in a decade’ rushing performance to turn the tide.
Why you should back the Eagles
The Eagles have one of the deepest rosters in the entire league and they’re 2-0 despite playing pretty poorly offensively. The defense has been great, but as soon as Jalen Hurts ignites his receivers, very few will be able to keep up. I’d rather be early than late.

Why you should back the Buccaneers
Tampa Bay seems to be thriving with Baker Mayfield under center and he’ll face a defense that could be without some key pieces in the secondary and at linebacker. This could open the floodgates for guys like Chris Godwin, and maybe even TE Cade Otton to take advantage of.
The Bucs have proven that they can hang against tough defenses. The Eagles are yet to really show they can put up 30+ points with ease. This should keep the Bucs lingering in the matchup long enough to at least cover the spread.

Eagles vs Buccaneers betting pick
We’re currently 2-0 in Eagles betting picks this year after Minnesota covered the spread last week. I think the Bucs will hang tough with Philadelphia, especially at home. But it depends on how bullish you are about the Eagles.
They could explode at any point, so taking advantage of these lower numbers is a good idea if you’re waiting for it all to come together. However, with the defense missing key components, I’m going to stick with the Bucs covering here.
