Texans vs Ravens: week 1 analysis

The Houston Texans are a team looking for a fresh start. They might finally have a quarterback they can hang their hat on and Nico Collins looks primed to emerge as WR1, which is absolutely deserved after his short burst of productivity to end the 2022 season. If the defense takes a step forward, there are reasons for optimism. This is a hefty spread and one that could provide some value if you’re looking to bet the underdog.

As for Baltimore, they are a relative unknown due to their new-look offense. There are still some concerns over the weapons Lamar Jackson has at his disposal in spite of a recent rebuild. OBJ is less-than 100%, Mark Andrews is listed on the injury report along with Ronnie Stanley, and the defense is going to be without Marlon Humphrey. The Ravens come into this game lacking some depth and that might play into the hands of Houston.

Texans vs Ravens picks

Backing rookie quarterbacks in week 1 can be a risky endeavour, but if the Ravens are going to be without several key pieces (some are gametime decisions), there could be a possibility that Houston stays within two scores. If this spread rises above 10 then this is an easy bet for me, even if the Ravens have all the cogs they need.

Pick 1: Texans +10

Texans vs Ravens pick #2

Even if the Ravens are going to be without some key pieces on offense, it should be a much more balanced playbook this season, which should give defenses more problems. The Ravens defense, however is weaker than ideal and that should give C.J Stroud and Nico Collins some room to score points.

The Ravens should still score in bunches but the weaknesses on defense should give the Texans an edge to push this over with a touchdown or two.

Pick 2: OVER 43.5 points

BONUS PICK: Nico Collins over 41.5 receiving yards

Nico Collins had 66 targets last year. 36 of those came across a 4 game stretch last year before injuries once again derailed his season. He averaged 44.5 yards per game in those contests and now has a much better quarterback throwing him the ball. This is a very low total for a WR1.
