Eagles vs Patriots: week 1 analysis
The Philadelphia Eagles come into this matchup with a full head of steam. A lot of people were concerned about how tough the task of maintaining such a deep roster would be, but Howie Roseman silenced his critics yet again. An incredible draft saw the team net Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith who headlined a class filled with athletic monsters, many of whom look primed to make an impact early. Jalen Hurts was handed a $255M contract extension, keeping him in Philly through 2028, and all of his favorite weapons are back for another rodeo, including that dominant offensive front.
As for New England, it was a varied offseason. JuJu Smith-Schuster joins the offense along with former Dolphins TE Mike Gesicki, while the defense was stocked up with the likes of the returning Jonathan Jones. It wasn’t a particularly splashy offseason, and all eyes will once again be on young QB Mac Jones to see if he can lift them to that next level.
Why you should back the Eagles
Philadelphia’s roster is incredibly deep and no spot is more intimidating than the front four. Not only do the Eagles have Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith joining the likes of Fletcher Cox and Jordan Davis, but they still have the ever-rampant Haason Reddick, Brandon Graham, and Josh Sweat all in the wings. This defense rallied to 70 sacks last year and it’s only gotten stronger. That’s bad news for a Pats offense that played a game of musical chairs with its offensive line throughout the summer.
On the other side of the field, Jalen Hurts is bringing back his band of brothers and is going to score points. Can the Patriots really keep pace with the Eagles? Is Mac Jones good enough to push the Pats forward in a shootout scenario? I have my doubts.

Why you should back the Patriots
Bill Belichick is 16-7 in week 1 games as Head Coach of the New England Patriots. His 18 total week 1 wins are the most of ANY active Head Coach. The Pats at home and it’s Tom Brady night in Foxborough. There is going to be an added edge here, and you can bet your bottom dollar Belichick hasn’t forgotten about Super Bowl 52. He’ll have circled Eagles vs Patriots as a game he wants to win.
From a team perspective, the Pats have to play keepaway. That involves running the rock and playing smart football. Luckily for them, Rhamondre Stevenson is a human-wrecking ball and he’s now being supported by Ezekiel Elliott in the backfield. With two pass-catching tight ends at his disposal and a shiny new wideout in JuJu Smith-Schuster, the Pats have enough pieces to play checkdown football and keep Hurts off the field.

Eagles vs Patriots betting pick
This is an Eagles team that SHOULD have won the Super Bowl and has only gotten stronger. A reformatted backfield, a rejuvenated defensive line, and a game-changing quarterback. The Pats took a step forward this offseason, but they’re still some way off of a championship-level team.
