The 2023 College Football season is rapidly approaching and if you’re looking to bet on the winners of the Sun Belt conference, this may be the best time before the odds start to shift once the first games have been played.

Troy was dominant last year, winning 11 games in a row. With success comes notoriety and the attention of other teams. The Trojans lost their defensive coordinator, a star wideout, and a dominant linebacker. However, they still have a capable quarterback in Gunnar Watson and now the experience of what it takes to win a championship game. Their main challenge will be beating South Alabama, but their lone fixture in 2023 will be a home game for the Trojans, which may just give them an edge.
Speaking of South Alabama, that’s where most of the hype rests. The Jags went 10-3 last year and are bringing back both coordinators as well as QB Carter Bradley, who threw 28 touchdowns and just 12 picks last year. There is a clear belief that last year was no fluke and that the Jaguars can build on their impressive 2022 campaign, but that means there isn’t a lot of value to be had for bettors.
Coastal Carolina is 3rd in the odds list after falling short in the Championship game against Troy. Grayson McCall is no joke at QB. 78 touchdowns and EIGHT interceptions. That’s not a lie. Their schedule appears to be fairly favorable, which should allow Head Coach Tim Beck To get to grips with his new team. There could be some value here if Coastal Cal can start rolling offensively and take advantage of some nice conference matchups.
Is it time to back a Sun Belt underdog?
If you want a real deep sleeper, then how about Texas State? The Bobcats missed the playoffs last year due to offensive woes, but amidst the disappointing campaign was a very tight loss to eventual champions Troy. They now have a new Head Coach in G.J Kinne (someone who has been highly praised in NFL circles). While his presence might not be enough to transform the team in a single season, Texas State should really fare much better than their suggested win total of 4.5 implies. I’ll happily back the OVER there and flirt with a lottery ticket on them to win the Sun Belt at such a high price.
