The Philadelphia Phillies are back in action after the All-Star break, playing host to the San Diego Padres and Milwaukee Brewers to kickstart the second half of the season. The Phils were fairly hot coming into the end of the first stanza and will be looking to get back on track after their most recent loss to the Marlins.

Pitching matchup

Christopher Sanchez (0-2, 2.84 ERA) vs Yu Darvish (5-6, 4.87 ERA)

The Phillies are sending their fifth-starter to the mound to contend with Yu Darvish. Sanchez has been pretty impressive this season and has only allowed 9 runs in 25 innings. 6 of those came across 2 games, meaning he’s only given up 3 runs in his other 3 contests. He surprisingly was only able to strike out 2 batters in his most recent start that went 6 innings, with his average being around 5 per game. He should have an easier day at the office today.

Darvish was less than 100% going into the all-star break and after an illness set him back a week or so, he gave up 3 runs and 7 hits against the Mets before the break. With a week off, fans will be hoping that Darvish can regain some form, but trying to silence a Phillies offense playing at home will be anything but easy.

Phillies vs Marlins Betting preview

As far as a logical bet goes, Yu Darvish has not been at his best this year and has given up nearly 20 runs over his last 5 games. Sanchez has impressed for the Phils, there is likely going to be some kind of regression soon. We saw a flash of it in his last start. There’s a good chance this turns into a real slobber-knocker, so I’m happy to pound the OVER 9.5 runs.

In what is a rematch of the NLCS, I think we can expect the Phils to really try and attack Darvish as they did back in 2022. Kyle Schwarber swung for the fences in that fateful playoff run and Bryce Harper should be back in the lineup. Harper is +360 to hit a home run and Schwarber is +240.

Wonderkid Juan Soto could also be in a prime spot to record a hit (-230). He’s only recorded one hit in his last 5 games, before recording 8 hits in the 5 games prior. This is a prime spot against a pitcher who could wobble at any moment.
