The Philadelphia Phillies are officially one of the hottest teams in baseball once again. The red-hot Fightin’s now host Atlanta and will look to even up the series after last night’s game was postponed.

Pitching matchup

Aaron Nola (6-4, 4.66 ERA) vs Bryce Elder (5-1, 2.60 ERA)

Aaron Nola was scheduled to pitch yesterday against Atlanta’s #4 ranked prospect. Rob Thompson is doubling down on his ace and sending him out today instead, but the matchup could be a lot tighter.

Bryce Elder tanks 5th in ERA this season and is averaging 5.9 innings per game. However, he’s only averaging 7.5 strikeouts per game in comparison to Nola’s 8.8. The Phils are sending out an esteemed pitcher who can hang with the very best in the league and while Elder has flashed that potential, there’s still a long way to go.

Don’t be put off by his low ERA. His most recent win saw him allow 1 run and 4 hits in a win over the Rockies, but the Braves did give him a 9-0 lead to work with. In the two games to that, Elder gave up a combined 9 runs. There is definitely room for the Phillies to build some momentum here.

Braves vs Phillies Betting preview

The Phillies are now 7-3 in their last 10 games and the gap back to the Braves now stands at 9 games. Unlike yesterday’s game that was postponed, there is a clear route to profit here.

We mentioned yesterday how Aaron Nola has allowed a home run in 13 of his 15 appearances this season and has done so in 11 consecutive games. We also know the Braves lead the league in home runs.

Sprinkle that in with Bryce Elder allowing 5+ hits in 8 of his 13 appearances this season and I think there is a real case to be made for betting the over.
