San Diego State vs UConn game preview

Well, the good news is that our betting prediction for the last UConn game was correct and the total flew under the inflated total. This time around it sits at 132 which is a much fairer line.

The line to note is the spread, however. UConn were 5 point favorites in their Final 4 matchup and once again, absolutely obliterated that total. They have won each of their NCAA Tournament games by at least 13 points. In fact, prior to the win over Miami, that number was 15, with blowouts over Iona, Arkansas, and Gonzaga all factoring in. This is a basketball machine and one that will demand the very best from San Diego State.

A win for UConn on Monday would net them a fifth NCAA Championship, while San Diego State is seeking its first. That may give the Aztecs a chip on their shoulder, but in what promises to be a meticulous defensive bout, it could be offense that wins the day.

UConn ranks 11th in field goal percentage while the Aztecs rank 46th. UConn is also averaging 7 points per game more than its opponents. The equalizer will come from SDSU’s perimeter defense. SDSU is holding teams to just 22% 3-point shooting in the Tournament, which is crazy. you’d assume the number would rise when the opponents get better, but it’s actually dropped from the 28% they held regular season opponents to.

If UConn cannot convert from deep and have to rely on the talents of interior force, Adama Sanogo things might just tilt in favor of the Aztecs. UConn also gave the ball away 15 times against a Miami side that could not convert them.

When all is said and done, I think there is an edge to be had here…

San Diego State vs UCONN: prediction

We saw an over-inflated total in UConn’s last game and their big win has resulted in a similar line on the spread. They’re a defensive powerhouse but are sloppy in possession and SDSU is exceptional at defending the perimeter. I think UConn wins comfortably, but SDSU should hang around long enough to keep the score under 8 points.

Betting pick: SDSU +7.5
