Can Boston Scott cement his legacy as the Giant Killer?

Eagles fans will have been licking their after watching the New York Giants stun the Minnesota Vikings. Not only are the Birds 2-0 against the G-Men this season, but they have homefield advantage and a hidden ace up their sleeve – Boston Scott.

The legend of Boston Scott

Boston Scott has been a valuable rotational running back for the Philadelphia Eagles ever since he was poached from the Saints practice squad in 2018. Since then, he’s amassed 1,209 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns while adding 516 yards and another score through the air. But for some unexplainable reason, it’s against the Giants that he really shines.

By now, the legend of Boston Scott is known across the nation. Of his career 1,209 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns, 414 yards and 9 of those scores have come in games against the New York Giants.

Maybe it was because of fluke injuries that pushed Scott up the depth chart, doubters would say. But in 2022, with a fully functioning offense, Scott still gashed the Giants for a combined 87 yards and another 2 scores in the two games the teams played.

It’s rare enough that a player can start to live rent-free in another’s head, or that of the team they play for (Ahem, Nick Foles & Tom Brady), but to consistently punch in your biggest performances against that same team over a four-year span is almost unheard of, especially for a rotational running back, who would usually only get a significant uptick in snaps in the event of an injury. But somehow, some way, Boston Scott continues to defy all boundaries and continues to haunt the dreams of Giants fans everywhere.

Coming in clutch

It’s not just the level of production, it’s when it comes, too. Scott scored a touchdown to send his first game against the Giants to overtime in 2019, saving a previously dead season in the process. In week 17, his hat-trick of touchdowns clinched the NFC East.

Fast forward a year and his go-ahead touchdown proved to be the difference as time ticked down. And when the two sides first clashed in 2022, Scott’s presence sent a jolt of thunderous energy into a special teams unit that had made next to no noise all season long.

Now, the Eagles and Giants are set to lock horns for a third time this season, and for the first time in the playoffs since 2008.

Can Boston Scott do it again?

There is no reason why this level of production won’t continue this weekend. The New York Giants are giving up 139.6 rushing yards per game, ranking 27th in the NFL. On the road, that number jumps to 165.4, ranking 31st in the NFL. Sprinkle in some unpredictability from Jalen Hurts along with the versatility of Boston Scott and there is every chance that this rotational running back becomes the center of attention once more.
