Morocco vs Spain

Morocco and Spain will face off in the penultimate matchup of this stage of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, presenting yet another opportunity for an underdog to prevail. Morocco has stunned the world up to this point, and they’ll need more of that same magic to defeat a dominant Spanish side.

Morocco vs Spain betting preview

Morocco’s incredible run to the knockouts has been a joy to watch. They were able to best both Belgium and Canada, while holding Croatia goalless. They’ll now have to channel that same energy to get past a lethal Spanish side.

Led by Hakim Ziyech, who has a goal and an assist through 3 games, Morocco is now unbeaten through eight consecutive games in all competitions. PSG RB, Archaf Hakimi, is also expected to return for this game, giving a red-hot side even more reason to be optimistic.

As for Spain, they need no introduction. They shockingly let Japan beat them in a miraculous fashion while attempting to rest players for the knockout stage, but the defeat may have actually helped their hopes of winning another World Cup. Instead of facing Croatia, it’s a clash against Morocco, which on paper, is a contest that’s far more winnable.

Morocco’s counter-attacking style of play has to be at its pinnacle if they are to win this game. They’ve done excellently to get this far, but their defensive mettle is going to be tested against what will feel like a never-ending carousel of dangerous attackers. Whether it’s Alvaro Morata off the bench, or future stars like Gavi and Pedri, La Roja brings a near-unrivaled level of attacking depth to the table, and when they fire on all cylinders, it’s a machine that’s hard to stop.

Morocco vs Spain betting pick

Like most games in the knockout stage, I really like the ‘over 2.5 goals’ selection. If you had bet it blindly across every round-of-16 matchup, you’d be 4-1. Morocco will be playing with a fire inside and Spain may be the most dangerous attacking team left in the tournament when cohesion is a strength. I expect Spain to win, but I can’t see there being a shortage of goals either.
