England vs Senegal betting preview

The Three Lions vs the Lions of Teranga will be a battle of more than just ‘pride’. England rebounded from a disappointing result against the USA, demolishing a disheartened Wales to win their group, while Senegal clinched a spot in the knockouts with a big win over Ecuador.

The man who got the goal for Senegal was captain Kalidou Koulibaly, and he has to be a name that England need to circle in red. The Chelsea defender has been just as impactful in the back line as he was in the opposing box in that win over Ecuador. Harry Kane is yet to find the back of the net this tournament and while Marcus Rashford is only getting hotter, a defender of Koulibaly’s size, speed, and physicality is bound to make things difficult.

However, it seems as though Kane especially has been dropping deeper to facilitate passes for the rapid midfielders the Three Lions have. It seems to be working and while Koulibaly may comfortably pocket Kane, there’s no guarantee danger won’t burst through the side doors as it has so many times this tournament already.

Senegal have done really well to get to this stage in the competition, especially considering that they’ll be without Sadio Mane. They’ve negated the loss well, but now they’ll also be without Everton’s Idrissa Gueye, which might only further swing the pendulum of momentum in England’s direction.

England looked much more confident against Wales and were able to rotate their squad a little, with Kyle Walker making his return to the squad. Gareth Southgate should have a healthy slate of players to pick from for Sunday’s game, giving him full tactical flexibility.

England vs Senegal betting pick

Senegal conceded a goal in every group stage matchup, so there is definitely a weak spot for England to target and they have a multitude of weapons to expose it. Over 2.5 goals feels like a strong selection at +130 given England’s rampant offense and the fact that Senegal need to score here.
