Will Jimmy Rollins be inducted into the Hall of Fame?

It is the time of the year again when the Hall of Fame ballots begin to make their appearances on social media and TV. The Major League Baseball Fame of Fame announcement is one of the best parts of the off-season and we are getting closer to another year of inductees. On January 24th, the newest inductees into the Hall will be announced live on the MLB Network.

The Phillies have several former players on the ballot in 2023. Bobby Abreu, Scott Rolen, Jimmy Rollins, Billy Wagner, and Jayson Werth are all eligible to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

The Case for J-Roll

Former MVP and World Series champion Jimmy Rollins returns to the ballot after gaining 9.4% in 2022. This was good enough to keep J-Roll on the ballot this season, and it is expected that he will gain more votes this season.

Jimmy is a 3-time All-Star and four-time Gold Glove winner at shortstop. Rollins was pivotal in the 5 National League East championships that the Phillies won from 2007-2011 and was the leader of those clubs. He was of course a member of the 2008 World Series team and the 2009 National League champion squad.

All-Time Standing

Jimmy Rollins put up some strong numbers to give himself a chance at the hall in Cooperstown.

Rollins ranks 14th all-time in hits for a shortstop, 7th in doubles, 12th in triples, 9th in home runs, 11th in stolen bases, and 15th in games played. With nearly 150 seasons of Major League Baseball, to be in the top 15 of all of these categories is a true accomplishment.

J-Roll led the National League in triples 4 times, hitting 20 in 2007 when he won the MVP award.

Jimmy Rollins is also one of the most decorated Philadelphia Phillies of all time. Rollins sits in the top 10 of nearly every offensive category in Phillies history, a franchise that has been around since 1883. To put together this resume on an organization that has lasted this long, is truly amazing.

What are the Odds?

The chances of Jimmy Rollins climbing from 9.4% to the 75% needed to qualify for the Hall of Fame is very slim. Rollins was a great player but not a second-ballot Hall of Famer. The most likely outcome will be that J-Roll will gain more votes this season and this 9.4% voting percentage will rise. If Rollins can break 20%, it will be a really good sign of his chances in the upcoming years.
