The team fired its Head Coach after a 15-year-run but this could be exactly what they needed to buck some disappointing trends. With talents like Darwin Nunez and Ronald Araujo poised to make an impact on the big stage, a fresh way of coaching could be the catalyst for change. Uruguay won all of their final 4 qualifying games, but a lack of familiarity with the team may lead to frequent changes as the best-XI is evaluated.

The main talking point here from a South Korean standpoint is the fact that they go into this matchup likely lacking its central star, despite his best efforts. Son Heung-min fractured his eye socket in a Champions League match and as a result, will miss this World Cup. It’s heartbreaking to see, as Son is a truly elite-level talent that could turn the tide of battle.

Without Son, it is hard to see how South Korea will keep pace with Uruguay.
