The Arizona Cardinals played brilliantly against the Los Angeles Rams last time out, but the San Francisco 49ers tried to one-up that sentiment by beating the Los Angeles Chargers. A win for the Cardinals here would put them second in the division, while a win for the Niners could move them to the very top since the Seahawks are on a Bye.
It won’t be easy for Arizona, however. Kyler Murray is battling a hamstring injury and is questionable to play on Monday night. Backup QB, Colt McCoy, is also trying to push through an injury. Oh, and top TE Zach Ertz is also out for the season. Given that the Niners are the NFL’s top-ranked run defense, the last thing the Cards need is instability at the quarterback position, with there being every chance that this will need to be a passing-fueled win.
Speaking of the Niners, they’re enjoying quite the turnaround. The arrival of Christian McCaffrey has been an impactful one. He’s put up 170 rushing yards, 118 receiving yards, and technically accounted for 4 touchdowns. Jimmy G might not be a star, but he doesn’t have to be so long as their offense can thrive with such a versatile and explosive group of players around him.
The altitude at the stadium this weekend is going to be key. It’s over 2,000 ft higher than Mile High Stadium in Denver, which is already notorious for tiring defenses. If the Cardinals can’t get off the field against an offense that amasses 360 yards per game, they’re really going to struggle here, especially if there is a setback at quarterback.
