Panthers vs Falcons headlines TNF in week 10

The Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons are set for a Battle of the Birds in this week’s Thursday Night game. The teams combine for a 6-12 record and it’s safe to say that 2022 hasn’t exactly gone to plan for either franchise. But these teams are in a terrible division and a win for Atlanta would temporarily move them to the top of the NFC South, so there’s a lot to fight for here.

Panthers vs Falcons betting preview

Despite the dumpster fire the NFC South has become, someone has to win it and the Falcons will have every intent on being that team. The Panthers are lingering at the bottom of the division with the worst record in the entire NFC and have imploded in recent weeks. Matt Rhule has been fired, Christian McCaffrey has been traded, and now even positional coaches are getting the boot. Oh, and they got absolutely battered 42-21 by the Bengals last week. To say the Panthers are a lost cause would be an understatement.

These two teams played a few weeks ago and the game ended with some bizarre moments. A stunning D.J Moore celebration and a confusing kicking conundrum all but gifted the Falcons an overtime win.

As far as betting this game, the Panthers, despite having Brian Burns at their disposal, rank 28th against the run and were ripped to shreds by the Bengals last week. The Falcons rank 4th in rushing yards per game, making this a total mismatch.

If it comes down to quarterbacks, is P.J Walker really going to be able to hang if he has to throw from behind? probably not. But the Falcons have given up more passing yards than any other team in the NFL this year, so that might encourage Walker to get aggressive, knowing full well he has to win confidence back somehow.

Mariota has been solid this season and with a solid run game to lean on, he won’t have to do a whole lot of work (if all goes to plan.) He does have over 300 rushing yards himself this season and with Cordaralle Patterson behind him, the RPO game is bound to wreak havoc here.

Panthers vs Falcons pick

Sportsbooks have this game as a 3-point spread which I find a little odd. The Falcons are clearly the better team and, of course, beat them just a couple of weeks ago. The Panthers have only fallen further from grace since and I just cannot see them keeping stride here.

Pick: Falcons -3
