Let’s just forget about last night, shall we? The Phillies were the first team since 1956 to be held to a no-hitter in a World Series game. It was so strange to see following Tuesday’s home-run fest and now the Aaron Nola advantage has disappeared. The team turns to Noah Syndergaard tonight in hopes of reclaiming a series lead that has now been given up twice. Tied 2-2, this may be the most important game of the series.
This is the last time the Phillies will play at home in this series. Games 6 and 7 will be played in Houston and after some shady goings on during the opening pair of matchups, there’s definitely a reason for fans to be a little concerned. The main thing here is that for the last time in the 2022 World Series, Citizens Bank Park can be turned into a fortress…and the Phillies have to make the most of that.

Pitching matchup
Noah Syndergaard (10-10, 3.94 ERA) vs. Justin Verlander (18-4, 1.75 ERA)
Cy Young candidate Justin Verlander will have revenge on his mind after giving up 5 runs in game 1 of this series and you could argue that there is no better time for him to make his return than after the Phillies were left hitless in game 4. Verlander’s game 1 outing was probably a one-off, at least, that’s what you’d like to think when looking back at how dominant he’s been this year, so the Phils will have to be on red alert.
The Phillies will be sending Noah Syndergaard to the mound today. He was supposed to start in game 3 but a rain delay meant that the Phils could get creative with how they decide to manage the bullpen. Ranger Suarez was excellent in game 3, giving Aaron Nola a clean shot at game 4 to give the Phillies a two-game lead. That didn’t happen.
Now, Syndergaard has a chance to write his legend. A lot has changed since his Tommy John surgery in 2020, and he’s been everything the Phillies have asked him to be this postseason, sporting a 1.69 ERA through 3 appearances.
The stakes are now higher than they’ve ever been, but Thor has a chance to rewrite his legacy and show that he can once again claim his spot as one of the best in the MLB.
Betting preview
I honestly don’t know where to start here. This could go either way but the pendulum has swung all the way back in favor of the Astros. Realistically, Verlander holds a significant pitching advantage over Syndergaard, but at CBP, with that crowd, anything is on the cards.
Instead of betting the game, I’m going to back both Alex Bregman and Bryce Harper to record a run. Harper has 13 RBI through 15 postseason games, while Bregman is hitting.283 in the playoffs and had 93 runs scored on the season. Both will be looked at to come up big tonight.
