Jalen Hurts & the Philadelphia Eagles returned from their bye week in explosive fashion. The Battle of Pennsylvania was always going to be explosive, but I don’t think anyone expected the young quarterback to turn in the performance he did. He was around +450 to win the MVP award going into the bye week, but how would the market react after the Birds extended their winning streak?

Jalen Hurts is now second in the MVP race

Josh Allen (Last week: 1st)+120
Jalen Hurts (Last week: 3rd)+350
Patrick Mahomes (Last week: 2nd)+400
Lamar Jackson (Last week: 4th)+1000
Joe Burrow (Last week: 5th)+1200
Geno Smith Last week: 12th)+2800

NFL MVP Odds: Jalen Hurts to win MVP +450

Previously: +2,000, +2500, +3000, +1400, +800, +600, +550, +550, +450

Jalen Hurts put on a passing clinic on Sunday. There were some concerns that if the Steelers could shut off the rushing lanes then he’d be marginalized as a passer but boy, did he ever prove them wrong. A career-high 4 passing touchdowns, 0 interceptions, completing 19/28 passes.

Meanwhile, the runaway favorite, Josh Allen, struggled against the Packers, throwing 2 picks and completing 13/25 passes. The gap between Hurts and Allen definitely shrunk this past weekend and that’s reflected by the odds dropping.

It’s basically a two-horse race for the award so long as the trend continues and Jalen Hurts is well-poised to take advantage of an easier schedule.

Their next 3 opponents are the Texans, Colts, and Commanders. Their combined record is less than .550. There is every chance that Jalen Hurts really entrenches himself in a flat-out duel with Josh Allen if he continues to progress at his current rate and can keep the engine going.

A $50 bet now would still net you a $200 return, but a few short weeks ago, it would’ve been over $1700! The scary part is, the odds probably aren’t going to be moving in the opposite direction anytime soon.

However, that doesn’t mean it’s too late to bet on Jalen Hurts to win the MVP Award.
