The Eagles came off their bye with very little rust. They took on the Pittsburgh Steelers with hopes of extending their 6-0 record and were successfully able to do so in a 35-13 win behind the arm of Jalen Hurts.

Eagles soar past Steelers

Hurts passed for 285 yards and four touchdowns and finished the game with a passer rating of 134.6. Three of the touchdowns went directly toward A.J. Brown as the Eagles’ top receiver caught 6 passes for 156 receiving yards along with three touchdowns.

Jalen looked very calm in the pocket and seemingly relied on his arm more than his legs in this game. Scrambling appeared to be off the table thanks to the Steelers defense, but other than that, the Eagles leader showed no signs of slowing down. Hurts stepped up and proved his worth as a passer, recording a career-high of 4 passing touchdowns.

The Eagles’ offense had several moments of rust as the penalties continuously piled on. The offensive line was called for several holding calls and an odd illegal formation call but it kind of feels like the referees just wanted to be heard.

Oddly enough it felt like the offense didn’t run the ball as much as they usually do as Miles Sanders led the team in carries with 9 touches for 78 rushing yards and one touchdown. He showed great moments of burst as his longest carry of the day went for 21 yards.

Defense struggles a little

The defense has several lapses due to penalties and a lack of awareness in coverage. Pickett was able to find his openings at ease at times which is a bit concerning if you’re on the Eagles’ defensive line. James Bradberry seemed to be the corner that was picked on by Pickett but there wasn’t much success for the rookie QB.

While rookie defensive tackle, Jordan Davis, was carted off due to an ankle injury, the defensive line continued to eat as they finished the game with four sacks and a forced fumble with Chauncey Gardner-Johnson adding a sack of his own to give the defense a total of five sacks. CJGJ also added an interception to his stats against Pittsburgh. He now has an interception in the last three games.

The Eagles will now head to Houston on a short week which will be a homecoming for the third-year quarterback. While the undefeated record will be on the line, the Eagles need to focus on getting out of that game healthy.
