The Eagles have traded for Robert Quinn. I don’t know what’s in the water in Philadelphia right now, but I’m a big fan of it. The veteran defensive end joins Philadelphia and bolsters what was previously a unit void of depth.

Losing Derek Barnett early in the season might not sound like a huge loss, but it left the defensive end group extremely thin on depth/ Sure, having Haason Reddick swarm around the trenches helps, but beyond Josh Sweat and Brandon Graham, options were limited…until today.

Robert Quinn is a Philadelphia Eagle

Robert Quinn is 32 years old, has just one sack on the season, and is in the third year of a five-year, $70 million deal. That part is a little concerning. His base salary is around $13M per year and for an aging player, it’s certainly not ideal, even if he is coming off of a stunning 18.5 sack season.

However, if there is one thing we’ve come to expect in Philadelphia, it’s to always trust Howie Roseman when it comes to contract scenarios. Whether it’s creating dummy years or reworking current deals, the GM has quite the reputation for somehow turning an impossibly complicated cap scenario into a situation where he can sign anyone he wants at any given time.

This is probably what made the decision to trade for Quinn that much easier. The Bears only wanted a fourth-round pick in return, which is nothing if they can get Quinn playing at a solid level for 2.5 years. Howie appears to have shifted his view on the NFL Draft, now using mid-round capital to acquire proven vets who can strengthen the rest of the team.

Quinn will join the Eagles in time for their week 8 clash with the Steelers, but it’s not yet known whether he will play or take some time to settle in. Either way, the best team in the NFL just got better.
