The Philadelphia Eagles are now 5-0 and still the last man standing when it comes to being undefeated. Their next task may well be their biggest and most important yet – getting past the Dallas Cowboys while under the primetime lights.

Eye on the Enemy

The Dallas Cowboys are 4-1 on the back of Cooper Rush and fans are torn. Are the Cowboys for real? IS what once happened with Dak, now happening with Cooper Rush?

Well, let’s contextualize this. The Cowboys have faced the Bucs, Bengals, Giants, Commanders, and Rams. None of those offenses are inside the top 15 and 4 of them are inside the bottom 20. It’s easy for the defense to look good when they’re facing beat-up offensive lines and poorly functioning offenses.

The Bucs handed them their only loss of the season so far with Leonard Fournette running rampant to the tune of 127 rushing yards. Every other team they’ve faced has had some kind of miscue, misfortune, or is simply a bad team.

Even the Los Angeles Rams, the defending Super Bowl Champions, have given up 21 sacks already this season as Matt Stafford has battled to find solace anywhere other than the hands of Cooper Kupp. That didn’t change against the Cowboys.

Where I’m getting at with this is that the Eagles have actually played moderate offenses. Not top-10, not elite, but average enough to really push them. The Cardinals and Jags both did excellent jobs and Arizona should’ve really won the game had it not been for a disastrous two minutes.

Nobody expected the Eagles and Cowboys to be a combined 9-2 through five weeks. You can make the berarish case around both teams as easily as you can find reasons to be excited. We’re going to find out who the contenders are and who the pretenders are on Sunday night.

Eagles vs Cowboys history

This rivalry is one that is filled with historic moments, but things have been a lot more forgettable as of late from a Philadelphia standpoint. The Eagles have lost their last 3 games against Dallas and 7 of their last 9. When looking at the NFC East this year and the ease of schedule for all 4 teams, it’s obvious that the crown is going to be decided by who can grind out those tough wins against divisional opponents.

The Eagles have to buck this recent trend of not only losing to the Cowboys, but completely falling apart at the seams. Most recently, Eagles Head Coach, Nick Sirianni donned a ‘Beat Dallas’ shirt before being walloped 41-21 in his first of two losses against the Boys that season.

Things are a little different now though, and the Eagles might just have enough to finally put out that fire.

How do the Eagles and Cowboys match up?

It sounds typical, but this game will be decided in the trenches. The Eagles have a dominant offensive line that has helped spearhead a dynamic offense. Whether it’s the rushing ability of Jalen Hurts, a running back slashing through the hole, or the big guys rumbling down field on screen passes, they’ve been the soul of this offense while Jalen Hurts has been the heart pumping it full of life.

The offensive line now faces the team with the second-most amount of sacks of anyone. Say what you want about who those sacks have come against, but Micah Parsons is no joke and he has quite the supporting cast with guys like Dorrance Armstrong alongside him.

On the flip side of things, Jonathan Gannon needs to unleash Hasson Reddick and company. There is no excuse not to blitz a backup quarterback, playing under primetime lights, in Philadelphia. Knock him off his perch and force the errors.

As if this matchup wasn’t intense enough, it will likely be decided by which side can dominate the trenches.

Eagles vs Cowboys betting prediction

I’m not sure how I feel about the Eagles being 5-point favorites at home here, but I also think this Cowboys parade is going to come to a startling halt eventually and there’s no reason why Jalen Hurts and this offense can’t be the ones to pull the mask off and let the world see what lies underneath.

Is Diggs really going to be able to contain someone like A.J Brown? Probably not.

This Eagles team is too explosive and too dynamic to be stalled by the Cowboys. If they get out in front early and force Rush to throw from behind, it’s game over. I’ll take the Eagles and swallow the points.
