The Philadelphia Eagles report to training camp today to kick off the 2022 season. While it’s a busy day for the coaching staff and players, the front office hasn’t rested on its laurels either. According to reports, the team agreed to a deal with defensive tackle, Kobe Smith.

Who is Kobe Smith?

An undrafted free agent out of South Carolina, Smith signed with the Titans immediately following the draft and was released in early September. He then signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers practice squad.

He signed a reserve/future contract on February 9, 2021. After some typical roster transactions that saw him bounce up and down, Kobe Smith was eventually waived on May 16th, 2022.

His scouting report out of college told the story of a stout run-stopper but an inadequate pass rusher. His ability to stop the run though has made him a nice commodity for most franchise’s practice squads.

The 6’2″ 300lbs, lineman hasn’t seen action in an NFL game and joins a loaded Eagles depth chart at defensive tackle. Playing behind Flecther Cox, Javon Hargrave, and first-round pick Jordan Davis, Smith’s odds of making the final 53-man roster are low.

The Eagles roster now sits at the full 90 players before practices begin tomorrow following the release of Craig James.
