The Philadelphia 76ers summer league began last night, and participating this year once again is Sixers fan’s favorite, Paul Reed. This year Reed looks to show he has finally improved enough to find a permanent roster spot with the Sixers. Paul Reed has been very active via social media, displaying he’s been in the gym working to improve his game, even mentioning he has added inches to his vertical.

These are all good signs for a young player going into this season wanting to prove to Sixers coaches he has a role with the team. That began last night as the Sixers summer league team faced off against the Memphis Grizzlies.

Despite the loss, Paul Reed finished the game with 20 points, 15 rebounds, and 4 steals while shooting 53.3%. Reed, displaying his usual athleticism and energy, hustled his way to, resulting in 7 rebounds. Reed displayed his range as well, shooting and making a three-point shot last night, something that’s been seen during the offseason that Paul has been working on.

Paul Reed has the athleticism and work ethic to become a quality player and have a role on this Sixers team. His game is raw and, at times, out of control, which last night was displayed in some turnovers totaling five in the game. These are areas that can be taught and can be cleaned up with coaching.

Reed deserves to have a role on the team and to finally get a chance to develop under Doc Rivers and the coaching staff. Some in-game experience should be both the reward for his play and the game plan for improving even more. Look for Paul Reed to continue a strong summer league in the remaining games in Vegas and likely, with the Philadelphia 76ers next season.
