The Phillies signed another relief pitcher Monday. After signing Corey Knebel to a one-year contract worth $10 million hours before the lockout, and reportedly signing Jeuys Familia to a one-year $6 million deal that could be worth $7 million Saturday night. The Phillies are also reportedly adding veteran left-handed pitcher Brad Hand to the fray.

According to multiple reports, the Phillies and Brad Hand have agreed to a deal worth $6 million pending physical.

Hand spent time with three teams in 2021. He had started the season with the Nationals, signing there as a free agent in January 2021. He was later traded to the Toronto Blue Jays before the trade deadline. He was then cut a month later and finished the season with the New York Mets.

Hand was on the radar of numerous teams before agreeing to this reported deal to join the Phillies

Phillies manager Joe Girardi has already said newly-acquired Corey Knebel will be his closer for the 2022 season. Leaving both Hand and Familia as seventh and eighth inning arms.

With these acquisitions, the Phillies current Luxury Tax Payroll sits at $196,812,948. This leaves Phillies President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski with about $33.2 million remaining in total CBT space. With a reunion with outfielder Odubel Hererra is imminent, that number will almost certainly creep closer to, if not eclipse $200 million.
