The Philadelphia Eagles announced some changes to their football operations department on Thursday and there was a surprising name among the new additions – former Jaguars GM Dave Caldwell. Here is everything you need to know.

Caldwell joins the Eagles on the back of an eight-year tenure as the General Manager of the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Eagles note that he will ‘contribute to the evaluation of the Eagles team, while also assisting with both the pro and college scouting process’.

He was fired from the Jaguars after a shocking 1-10 start to the 2020 season, leaving with a record of 37-86 and going 2-1 in the playoffs.

Among the other promotions and hirings is that of Ian Cunningham being named director of player personnel. He was formerly the director of college scouting. Andy Weidl once held this role before his promotion which shows some real progress for Cunningham.

The Eagles also announced that Catherine Raiche has now been promoted to Vice President of Football Operations. She is now the highest ranking female in NFL history when it comes to the personnel department. She was formerly the assistant GM for the Montreal Alouettes and joined the Eagles two years ago. This is a huge feat and one that will continue to empower women within the industry.

Raiche isn’t the only woman receiving a promotion. Ameena Soliman is now a Pro Scout after spending three years with the Eagles as a player personnel intern/coordinator.

Jeff Scott Joins the Eagles as a Senior Pro Scout following a nine-year stint with Washington. He was actually named their assistant director of pro scouting last offseason after being their director of football strategy for two years before that. Given Washington’s stellar drafting in recent years, this is a solid hire.

The Eagles also announced The appointment of a ‘Senior Director of Football Transactions’. Bryce Johnston takes that role after joining the Eagles in 2016 and working his way up the administrative ladder. The Eagles note that Johnston’s role will include ’the planning and execution of salary cap management, player contract negotiation and structuring, football resource allocation, and other aspects of roster transactions and CBA compliance.’
