It may not be the biggest move in the world, but it may be the one that has the biggest impact this offseason. Alex Singleton was an ERFA, meaning that so long as the team made him an offer of a one-year deal at the league minimum, he could not sign elsewhere. On Thursday afternoon, his return was made official.

After going undrafted in 2015, the 6’2, 232 lbs, linebacker bounced around NFL practice squads before landing in in the CFL, where he would go on to dominate. . In three seasons, he recorded 311 tackles, 4 sacks, one interception, and forced six fumbles.

Singleton joined the Eagles last year on the back of his hugely successful CFL campaign. He went from being the league’s most outstanding defensive player in 2017, to arguably the Eagles’ most outstanding defensive player three years later.

His first season in Philadelphia was largely spent on special teams, but it didn’t take long for him to make an impact in year two. After 10 snaps in the season opener, and minimal exposure to defensive snaps in the weeks thereafter, he made the most of his next opportunity.

Alex Singleton picked off a huge pass and took it to the house for a score against the Niners. After that, his snaps and production sky-rocketed.Between weeks 10 and 17, Singleton played virtually every single snap. He ended the season with 106 tackles to his name, leading the team by a significant margin. The next closest player was Jalen Mills, who amassed 74.

Now playing under a defensive coordinator who values linebackers in his scheme, last year’s breakout may only be the beginning for one of the most exciting players currently on the roster.
