According to ESPN’s Josina Anderson, the Philadelphia Eagles could be looking to meet with former Titans CB Adoree’ Jackson providing he doesn’t sign with the Giants on Sunday.
The idea of signing Jackson is an interesting one. At 5’11, 185 lbs, he’s another shorter corner whose versatility and speed make him an intriguing candidate in Gannon’s secondary. The former first-round pick is still 25-years-old with his best years ahead of him and there’s no doubting a change of scenery was best after missing 13 games last year with an injury and suffering indirect shots from Jon Robinson. The situation is very reminiscent of what happened with the Eagles and Sidney Jones when his mental toughness being called into question back in 2019
If he can get back to full health, Adoore’ Jackson could be a fun project to take on at a low cost. He’s played in 46 games for Tennessee since 2017, starting in 41 of them. His 189 tackles, 33 passes defended and two picks in that span aren’t bad numbers by any means and the team clearly valued him as they picked up his fifth-year option. Although his shortened 2020 campaign was disappointing in terms of coverage, Jackson proved he can hold his own outside if needed and held a 94.3 passer rating when targeted in 2019. This is much better than the 145.8 rating given up last year.
If the Eagles are insistent on finding a free agent to fill the CB2 void then Jackson’s name is one worth noting. Not many people assumed he would be available and with enough speed to carry receivers vertically down the field, he would be able to force quarterbacks off of the easy deep bombs which were completed to any receiver Darius Slay wasn’t lined up against. Whether or not he makes it out of New York without a contract is the next big question, but today has already shown us that the Eagles are confident enough to throw some mid-level money around and it would tick off a fairly important need, leaving their early-round draft capital available to spend elsewhere.
