Report: Eagles to part ways with LB Coach Ken Flajole

According to SiriusXM’s Alex Marvez, the Eagles’ purge of coaches will extend to the defensive side of the ball too. Linebacker coach Ken Flajole will not be returning to the team in 2021.

This doesn’t really come as a shock. Flajole has been with the team since 2016 and has witnessed his group steadily decline. It’s not all his fault. Jordan Hicks, Nigel Bradham, and Mychal Kendricks all had great years under his tutelage, but when the old guard left, the Eagles did very little to replace them. This left Flajole’s group running on fumes, especially in 2020.

To his credit, Alex Singleton, Duke Riley, and T.J Edwards have all glistened to varying levels. Not to his credit, Nate Gerry hasn’t, despite earning glowing praise. Had it not been for his injury, we may not have seen the rise of Singleton.

One has to wonder just how deep this Knife is going to cut. Will the Eagles proceed to rip through the defense and part ways with names like DB Coach, Marquand Manuel, who has only just joined the team?

The team are already losing defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz this offseason, so potentially they’d want to give the new defensive coordinator some say on certain positional coaches. It would make sense to strengthen the weakest area of the team and if the new coordinator has a vision for the type of coach he wants, it may behoove the Eagles to wait things out.

It’s bound to be a turbulent offseason for the Eagles and this move is probably going to be the first in a chain-reaction over the weeks that follow. There will likely be more firings before there are some hirings, so keep your eyes peeled. We could be looking at a very different coaching staff by the time Training Camp rolls around.
