Earlier this afternoon, Flyers’ coach Alain Vigneault joined The Anthony Gargano Mid-Day Show on 97.5 The Fanatic to discuss the upcoming season.

In Philadelphia, we love transparency from our head coaches. Transparency is why coaches like the Sixers’ Doc Rivers and Flyers’ Alain Vigneault gain respect in this city. Those coaches are elite in their respective sport because they hold the franchise accountable outright. When something needs to be fixed, they don’t insult the ones who pay the price of admission. They know if we can see it, they can see it.

Vigneault Hops on the Radio

When Vigneault was a guest on The Anthony Gargano Mid-Day Show this afternoon, the listeners were in for a treat. His matter-of-fact demeanor doesn’t mince words or pull punches. You know when he is asked a question by Gargano, you’re going to hear an honest answer. On the show today, Vigneault got Philadelphia “Flyer’d” up for the 2020-2021 season.

“We are not in this for a round, we are in this to win the Stanley Cup.”

Vigneault, like many Flyers fans, believes his group of players is ready to hoist the Stanley Cup at the end of 2020-2021. His foundation’s installed within Philadelphia. This season offers another unique challenge with the opponents and schedule. The Flyers compete in the NHL’s toughest division this season. After the Eastern Conference Semifinals last postseason, Vigneault believes the team will benefit from that series and has the depth to make another run for the Stanley Cup.

A winning culture is what Vigneault and Chuck Fletcher have built after one season together. Fletcher made a couple of well-thought moves this offseason, external and internal, to put Philadelphia in a position to make the playoffs. In the Flyers locker room, this winning culture is about legacy. One face of the franchise could play the most crucial role in Philadelphia reaching the postseason.

The Flyers’ Current Roster is Key

“There is no doubt that Carter Hart is going to be a huge part for us to make and take a step forward. We all know the importance of goaltending. He was excellent for us last season.”

Carter Hart is one of the most exciting players on the Flyers roster. His postseason performance put him in discussion with the NHL’s elite goaltenders. From the goaltender on out, Philadelphia is buzzing with impactful young players. Philippe Myers signed a new extension to join Ivan Provorov on the top pair. Vigneault also stated that, in his mind, Nolan Patrick will be ready for the Pittsburgh Penguins on January 13th.

It was also explained that Morgan Frost caught the eye of Vigneault in training camp. Frost has made an impression, forging himself into the gameplan. He’s a center, but Vigneault has been giving him a look at left-wing. If Frost can excel on the wing, his versatility will earn him more ice time.

Some of the moving parts from a season ago are finding their place. The Flyers had a rest day from the on-ice activity today but spent time studying film. They’ll resume their training camp tomorrow. Plan’s to finish the week with an intrasquad scrimmage televised on NBC Sports Philadelphia. The scrimmage will take place on Sunday, January 10th, at 7pm.
