Eagles confusingly send Jalen Reagor to IR one week after injury

The Eagles kicked off their Tuesday morning by living up to the ‘Bad things happen in Philadelphia’ brand. First-round selection Jalen Reagor was placed on the IR list, which is usually an expected occurrence. The difference is that Reagor was injured over a week ago.

Through two games, Reagor had 96 receiving yards on 5 catches. 55 of those yards came on a huge catch against Washington, his only reception in that matchup. The rest came in week 2 against the Rams, but his involvement in the offense was relatively minimal to this point, despite leading the WR’s in snaps played before the injury.

In the week 3 tie to Cincy, the Eagles looked void of any dynamic playmakers on offense and it was easy to see the gaping hole left by the TCU product, who suffered a UCL tear against the Rams. What’s confusing though is why the Eagles waited an extra week to place him on IR.

Sending him to IR last week would’ve meant he could’ve returned in week 6 at the earliest. Now it’s week 7 or beyond. Maybe it was a case of waiting for the official diagnosis, or maybe something else came up during diagnosis. But for a team that has had to revamp its medical staff nearly every offseason for the last five years, this doesn’t exactly do much to change the public perception of there being an inherent internal communication breakdown.

Whether it’s from Pederson to the media, or the doctors to the Head Coach, or the players to the doctors, there is a game of Chinese Whispers that seems to be raging on year after year. Maybe this isn’t the case with Jalen Reagor, but the move to wait an extra week makes little to no sense.
