According to Field Yates, the Eagles are hosting former Falcons running back Devonta Freeman for a workout:

Mike Kaye, of NJ.com, confirms the report but adds it is for next week.

Freeman, 28, has been in the league since 2014. He spent one year with Rich Scangarello in Atlanta (2015). That year, he played in 15 games (started 13) and had his highest career yards per game average (70.4) and had a league-leading 11 rushing touchdowns. He also had his career-high in receiving yards with 578.

Freeman has had some workouts while being a free agent, but had yet to pick a team. Recently, Josina Anderson reported that Freeman was down to four choices:

With Miles Sanders being “100%” for Sunday, Freeman will provide veteran insurance if the second year running back’s hamstring decides to act up again. While Boston Scott and Corey Clement are great complementary pieces, it seems as though the Eagles want someone who can handle a heavy workload if Sanders was to go down with an injury.

The duo struggled in all facets of the game in week one, but most notably in pass-protection and running up the gut. The Eagles had to run a lot outside zone plays that became very predictable. Adding that powerhouse back would be a great fit.

At the very worst, the Eagles will have a very good option on short-yardage plays. Since being drafted, Devonta Freeman has the 8th most rushing yards when there are 0-3 yards to go until a first down. He has the 10th most first downs.

The Eagles could very well turn back the clock to 2017 for their running backs with the signing of Freeman.
